What is School Spirit?

The spirit of a school begins in the community which surrounds the buildings; spirit begins in the
attitudes of the people whose children populate the school. School spirit is linked to purpose and purpose
is linked to will. Share in the enthusiasm and will of Strawbridge.

What is our school logo?

What is our school mascot?

The Strawbridge Slider.
The turtle’s whole life is one of steadfastness of effort and patience.
Many believe turtles represent longevity, great age and wisdom.
There is a saying, "Home is where
the heart is." and the turtle is
always at home within itself.
We can be at home at Strawbridge.

What is a slider?

A slider is a type of turtle. The Strawbridge Slider is a red eared slider.
There are other kinds of sliders, including yellow bellied sliders.
They live for over 25 years and their shells get up to 12 inches long.

Why is it called a slider?

They have no teeth, but have a sharp beak.

Where do they live?

Sliders are aquatic, meaning they live in water. They live in lakes, ponds, streams and rivers.
They only come out of the water to bask in the sun or to lay eggs. Sliders can be found right in Haddon Township.

From 2 to 20 eggs in a hole on dry land that they dig with their back feet. The eggs are laid in June or
July and hatch in 80–85 days. The hatchlings (baby turtles) are on their own.

They hibernate at the bottom of the water in the mud. Their breathing and heartbeat slows,
and they don’t need to come up for air until spring.

How many kinds are there?

There are about 250 kinds of turtles and tortoises in the world, including about 50 in North America.
